He entered it in a competition arranged by a Viennese music lovers society. It did not win but at a later performance, Berlioz was present and praised the work and called Nicolai a clever and inspired composer. Nielsen, Carl 'Sinfonia Simplice' He lived 1865-1951. This work from 1922 was the last of his symphonic works composed just after the 5th sym. He as to suffer a series of heart attacks which reduced his output.
